The political-sounding title of this year's Regionale exhibition at Kunst Raum Riehen not only refers to the motives behind the creation of the Regionale as a tri-national art exhibition in a cross-border area, but also to today's rampant nationalism, the threat of walls, isolation and isolationism. With works by participating artists from all three countries of the Regio, the exhibition in Riehen sees itself as a counter-sign to this and promotes the most highly regarded exhibition of the year. Abstract painterly interpretations and appropriations of art, Dadaist collages, material and object art, model-like allusions to architectural, colonial and literary history, moving images and sculptural identifications of the self characterize the exhibition.
